Here’s what to expect from the property market in South Africa in 2021

Chief executive officer of national real estate group Just Property, Paul Stevens gives his forecast for the property landscape in the year to come.

Buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants will be looking for more value in the services that are offered to them. This will lead to an even more competitive business environment.

Practitioners in the real estate sector need to ensure that we shift our focus from a transactional business to a relationship-based business, said  Stevens.

“Service levels in our industry are generally very low, especially considering that we are dealing with major investments that often involve major emotions too. For the person selling, buying or renting a home, it’s a very personal thing and an opportunity to touch hearts and influence people. We have to become customer-obsessed,” he said.

PepsiCo makes a refreshing South African comeback – SA Investments

US maker of cooldrinks and snack foods PepsiCo has had its eye on the southern African consumer market for decades. Its effort to build a base in South Africa after 1994 ended in disaster and the company abandoned its effort to build a distribution network from scratch. The acquisition of Pioneer Foods, a giant in the local fast-moving consumer goods industry, offered it the perfect opportunity to enter the African market.

Beyond, Constantia – Winemag.co.za

This time next year Peter Tempelhoff’s new restaurant should be packed to its centuries-old rafters.

The restaurant is called beyond. It’s housed in one of the old thatched buildings on the Buitenverwachting wine farm in Constantia, with floor-to-ceiling views of the vineyards.

The décor is pure class. The sage-coloured walls, smooth wooden tabletops and velvety armchairs reminded me of La Petite Colombe. The herringbone feature wall and dried floral displays are dramatic and current.

The food, not surprisingly, is delicious. Tempelhoff is one of the Cape’s most highly-acclaimed and pioneering chefs, the man behind Afro-Asian fusion restaurant, FYN. Ashley Moss, also of FYN, is beyond’s culinary director.

Buitenverwachting wines are good and beyond’s wine list is, apparently, packed with treasure.

The 13 Best South African Wines to Score Right Now | Food & Wine

A new generation of winemakers is bringing a fresh approach to South Africa’s traditions, and these bottles make their case.

South Africa’s “winelands,” as they’re known, are among the most beautiful wine-producing regions in the world. Dramatic landscapes marked by mountains that jut up seemingly out of nowhere, rugged coastlines, and world-class hospitality have made this country a must-visit destination for wine lovers.

And while it’s often categorized as a New World wine country, South Africa’s vineyards have been thriving for centuries—all those ships sailing around the Cape of Good Hope needed to replenish their rations! In that sense, South Africa’s wine is both Old and New World.
