The City of Cape Town has announced a ten-point tourism strategy to get the industry back on its feet, said Alderman James Vos the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities & Asset Management.
The City’s tourism strategy aims to breathe life back into the tourism sector and help bring about economic recovery.

The City of Cape Town has announced a ten-point tourism strategy to get the sector back on its feet.
For destinations to succeed, they need to constantly reinvent, while incorporating the unique assets, the authenticity of their products and experiences all within a safe environment. With the City’s ten-point tourism strategy, we aim to help breathe life back into this vital sector to assist in bringing about economic recovery, just like we’ve done many times before.
A few months ago, we put together the Tourism Task Team to support the tourism and hospitality industry through these tough times while also focusing on future prospects. The Team enjoys high level support from across the sector as well as our official destination marketing organisation, Cape Town Tourism.
I am pleased to say that we are constantly looking at global best practice to implement measures to drive the various stages of recovery and readiness, as well as campaigns to stimulate supply and demand for specific key source markets such as domestic travel until international travel is restored.

Cape Town has partnered with the World Travel & Tourism Council and assumed the role of a Safe Travels Ambassador.
We are proud to have received this globally recognised Safe Travels Stamp and as the official Destination Marketing and Management Organisation for the City of Cape Town, we are now also able to issue the stamp to tourism businesses who adhere to the set-out guidelines. This means that Cape Town becomes part of a global network of destinations committed to adhering to strict health and safety protocols.
This role is vital in ensuring that that Cape Town’s businesses are ready for inter-provincial and international travel. Cape Town is ready to issue the WTTC Safe Travels stamp to businesses that are doing their utmost to ensure visitor safety by following the recommended protocols and guidelines.
The Safe Travels stamp is the world’s first-ever global safety and hygiene stamp for Travel & Tourism, designed specifically to address COVID-19 and similar outbreaks. The stamp will allow travellers to recognise destination authorities and companies that have implemented health and hygiene protocols that are aligned with WTTC’s Safe Travels Protocols.

Ranging from 1700’s Cape Dutch buildings with thatched roofs, to ultra-modern millennium brick, cement and glass buildings, the Western Cape Winelands offer a diverse range of architecture, the one more show-stopping than the next.
